Public Performance Partners President and CEO Hugh Quill announced today that P3 has begun working with Montgomery County, Ohio on a bail reform project.
“Bail reform is on the agenda in counties around the country and here in Ohio,” Quill said.
According to Ohio’s Criminal Sentencing Commission, one-third of people in Ohio’s jails are there awaiting trial because they can’t afford to post bail. Bail is supposed to be about ensuring court appearances and/or keeping defendants who pose a serious risk to the community in jail pending trial.
“There is a growing movement to ensure systems of bail don’t discriminate based on wealth,” Quill said.
“Putting people in jail who are not a flight threat or a threat to the community while they await trial is also a drain on limited public resources,” he added.
“P3 is proud to be working with the Montgomery County Commissioners in a staffing and support role for the county’s bail reform project,” Quill said.
Along with Quill, a former Montgomery County Treasurer, Jim Knight, a former probation officer, member of the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s staff, and former Chief Deputy of the Montgomery County Clerk of Courts office, will be working on the project.
